Obama Gets Write-in Vote in Romania

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama got a write-in vote in the north-eastern city of Iasi in Romania, where a disgruntled voter preferred him to seven local politicians competing for seats in parliament, Romanian news agency Rompres reported Monday.

Results of the eastern European country's parliamentary elections are inconclusive, with two opposition parties getting around 33 percent of the votes each, raising the specter of long negotiations to form a government.

Turnout was just below 40 percent, with many Romanians, disappointed by constant bickering among politicians and their failure to tackle key issues such as the fight against corruption, refraining from voting.

Vlad Tepes, the cruel 1400s ruler who is believed to have inspired Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula", was another write-in candidate when another voter, also in Iasi, wrote his name in an additional box on the ballot and applied the "voted" stamp to it.
