The battle against climate change took centre stage at this week’s G8 summit in Italy. CNBC spoke to Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen about the issue.

The Bank of England may announce another wave on quantitative easing in August, despite refraining from embarking on more easing in July, James Shugg from Westpac Bank told CNBC Friday.

"I hope that today we are going to launch this initiative on food security, I will pledge $4.3 billion," Jose Manuel Barrosso, EU Commissioner, told CNBC at the G8 summit in Italy. "It is helping farmers in the developing countries," he added.

Many are disappointed with the pledges made by G8 leaders to tackle global warming. Henk Keilman, CEO of privately-owned venture capital company RIG Investments, discusses the G8 agreement and importance of investing in green technology.

China and India will eventually reach an international agreement on reducing carbon emissions, Nobuo Tanaka, executive director at the IEA, told CNBC at the G8 summit in Italy. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, managing director at the IMF, joined the discussion.

Financial regulation needs to be agreed at a global level to be effective, Sir Howard Davies, a former chairman of the Financial Services Authority, told CNBC. Chris Rexworthy from IMS Consulting joined the discussion.

"Sadly the G8 is not terribly important now the G20, which is now the key body, has rather superseded it," Sir Howard Davies from the London School of Economics and Political Science told CNBC Thursday. Angel Gurria, secretary general of OECD, joined the discussion.

Euro zone GDP contracted 2.5% in the first quarter of 2009, compared to the same quarter a year earlier, the EU's statistics office confirmed Wednesday. Bob McKee from Independent Strategy considers the outlook for Europe.
